A Tribute to a Great Sculptor

Fritz White

Out of the Mystic Past

Out of the Mystic Past - Fritz White

Fritz White literally came out of the mystic past and gave us many beautiful works of art. There are several of Fritz’s pieces on display in various parts of Loveland. The above piece is displayed in the Benson Sculpture Gardens and is one of my favorites. I also have a small wolf done by Fritz White on display in my home. I really love the expression and the way he could capture the spirit of the piece he created. These are works of art that have a story to tell, and if you listen, you can hear it. Fritz had a story to tell of which he told through his sculptures.

Fritz, a long time resident of Loveland and internationally known sculptor known for his expressive quality in his art, passed away this last week. He will be missed.

Thank you Fritz for sharing your creative talents with us! May you rest in peace.

That's a nice image, but…

Studio Portrait #2

Have you ever looked at an image and said to yourself “that is a nice image, but…”? Do you find that it is easier to point out the flaws in others images than to find the flaws in your own? If so, you are not alone.

I have found that critiquing others images is easier than finding, and has the tendancy to point out, the flaws in my own images. Not sure why this is so, but by helping others I’m finding it is helping me to be a better photographer. It is not as easy to remember everything you need to do when taking the image. Sometimes you just have to shoot and hope you can fix any problems in post processing. The thing I have noticed though, is that the more images I critique, the more natural it becomes for me to be aware of these kinds of issues when I am taking the image instead of in post processing. You’ve probably heard it said “…it’s always better to get it right in camera…” and this couldn’t be more true. Offering critiques on others images is a great way to train your brain to get it right in the camera, and it helps to fast track your learning.

Even so, after every photo shoot I do I realize something I fogot to do or something I missed. I find this very frustrating.
